Design brief to conceptualize a future library proposal at the Howard Smith Wharves site in Brisbane, Australia. This five week project was completed in collaboration with a third year architecture team at the Queensland University of Technology also located in Brisbane.

Our concept focused on crafting a place that acts as a dynamic hub of activity for a mosaic of subcultures to intertwine and interact. The design concept of Bloc is to provide a gathering place that guides, redirects, and reconnects the currently segregated flows across the site by acting as a host for community events and activities where people can come to collaborate, concentrate, and cultivate.

The reason for this is because metropolitan areas are typically homogeneous and as a result are devoid of life and character. This is also reflected in the services and architecture of these areas. The undifferentiated character of modern cities deteriorates versatility and impedes the growth of character. Heterogenous places, where people are mixed together, are inherently rich. The aim of BLOC is to create a rich community where a marketplace for knowledge and ideas can be born.
