SIMON FRASER UNIVERISTY + AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR ROMAN CULTURE
During the 2007 italiaDesign Field School in Rome, briefed by the American Institute of Roman Culture to conceptualize an extension for the Crypta Balbi Museum in five days.

The project was an application of various readings, contextual observation, site analysis, field experiments, the historical development of the neighbourhood and, on a larger scale, Rome itself. The proposed intervention was to re-integrate an untouched excavation site with its counterpart Museum across the street. Our focus was to visually present the idea of palimpsest – the many urban layers that make up the city of Rome.

The presentation form focused on a dynamic space with interactive objects that can change to house different exhibitions as well as utilizing technology, with the real physical layer of artifacts in the space, to illustrate palimpsest for the eternal city of Rome.
